Viewing Something? : My SketchQuest Contest Entry
I wanted to share something a bit different for my entry into @quatro’s SketchQuest drawing contest this week. Usually, I just let my imagination run wild, but today I was inspired by a random photo sent to our group chat. It was a picture of my two nephews, just caught in a moment while they were looking at something—maybe a video or a game on a computer screen.
There was something about their expressions and the way they were leaning in that I really wanted to capture. I must admit, I tried a little harder this time to make the drawing actually look like them I hope they will laugh at it when they see it. It was a fun challenge to try and get that bit of resemblance while still keeping the feeling of a quick, spontaneous sketch. You can see that focused look in their eyes -- intense and focused at the same time.
I chose a very calm, muted green for the background so that the focus stays right on the boys and their interaction. I turned a simple photo from a group chat into a piece of art that makes you feel connected to your family, even when you aren't in the same room. I think this drawing captures a slice of everyday life that we often overlook. There is nothing big about this moment but I am sure the kids will look back and reflect to it when they grow older.
Thank you to the Draw A Day community for giving me a reason to sit down and turn a family memory into a doodle. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s entries for @quatro’s challenge. Good luck and keep creating.
