What Went Down on Easter Island?

I seem to remember that when I was a child, the local PBS affiliate seemed to frequently show a NOVA program about Easter Island (Rapa Nui to the natives) and its mysterious statues. Those mo'ai always made me feel uncomfortable under their silent gaze, even from our tiny television with its fuzzy over-the-air signal. But they also fascinated me.
