Ode To Yellow-Red
Hello !
I took my car to my mechanic early this morning. I expected to get a call from him within a few hours with an estimate of what it will cost me for all I want done. Surprisingly, no call. He has a great business, is fair and reliable, always has been, I really was surprised. They close at 5:30 and of course someone will have to take me to get it, so at 4 I called to check on it,which I believe was fair, since it was there before 8 AM. That didn't help though, because my call went straight to voicemail ! What ?? Then I thought, well maybe because he is so busy, he will call me after hours and they will get to it tomorrow. It's right past 6:30 now.... and no call.
I'm surprised, but feel peaceful about it. I know where it is and that when I get it back it will be purring nicely, I don't need to go anywhere anyways. Maybe tomorrow !
So... why did I call this Ode To Yellow-Red. This is why ! Weekend before last there were some great sales going on in different places, so in order to continue to spoil the fire out of myself, I ordered more fun art supplies.
Now my disclaimer for what I am about to tell, is that I know the real fault, if there is one, is totally on me, but it does not make me extra happy when I do dingy things like this.
As I was ordering tubes of paint, most brands of which I am familiar with, I came across this Amsterdam brand and it had this yellow-red. I had been unable to find hardly anything in any peachy or coral shades, so I thought I'd give this one a try as it is a bit like light peach in color. In the ads, it looked just like the others, but I failed to notice the size. I actually got two ! When my order got here, I pulled out a dozen or so tubes the size of the Liquitex you see here and then in the bottom there were these tiny things. I wondered if the company had thrown in a sample size of something to get me to try it, but then I found it was the "yellow-red" that I had actually ordered and paid as much for as the other much larger tubes.
Jeezers ! That was pretty tiny and I would have kicked my own hiney if I could have, for not being as thorough as I should have before ordering. No one to blame but me it is true. I detest when I do that to myself.
So last night I decided to have a little fun with it. I took a small canvas board, put a fat swipe of yellow-red down the panel and vowed to build a piece of art around it and no matter what it looked like, I was not covering it up!
Since it was supposed to just be nonsense anyway, I decided to use pieces of these brown paper bags that I had used under my art to keep some of the paints from going on the table. I had kept some of them when I would decide it was time for a new clean piece. If they had some neat paint marks, I cut them up and kept them.
Fun stuff....
I had a pretty neat collection, so I began. I had fun with it. In the end, it turned out like this. Actually, the only thing I don't love about it is that swatch of yellow-red. The rest of it turned out much better to me than I expected the brown paper bag stuff too look. I created it in this orientation.
Because it is abstract though, you can turn it an way you like. I wasn't sure I didn't like this way better.
This one was a little neat to my eye too as I think with the big round disc (one of the circle arts I showed a few posts ago).... my eye wants to see it as a moon position and so it seems to work as well.
This way I liked the least.
.... and of course, there should be a B & W version. Pretty neat.
That's it for now, but one day, I may put something over the yellow-red swatch of it, because I like the other parts pretty good, but the yellow-red doesn't fit that well to me.
Oh... and the paint, it looked nice and creamy when it squeezed out of the tube, but I found it to be too transparent for my needs, so not only was it not a good price deal, it really didn't seem like better paint than the other brands I use. I won't even be tempted to buy it again.
When my sister followed me to take my car this morning, afterwards we went to a place for breakfast one of her friends had told her about, a little hole-in-the-wall place that neither of us had ever been. It wasn't too crowded, the service was great and the food was tasty too. After we visited a while, we went to the garden market and bought a few flowers and a cantaloupe, tomato and corn on the cob...yum yum. We went to two of them, because I was looking for a particular flower that was not to be had and then after we went through Starbuck's and splurged because I had some gift cards left from Christmas that needed to be used up. We really had a nice sister's morning.
Now I am about to head to the kitchen and cut up the cantaloupe and tomato for my supper. Can't wait !
Hope your week is starting off nicely and the rest of it turns out to be good too.
Love ya !
