I happened to try to get to https://physics.nist.gov/cuu/Constants/ intending to look up physical constants, when I found myself redirected to the main page which stated

Due to a lapse of funding most of this website is not available

Being confined to Europe resp. Germany I don't know about the background but I wonder whether there could be worse news for the scientific community.

I heard of the restrictions in governmental funding before or around Christmas but until today the results somehow seemed ... smaller and more remote ... :(
I feel more sorry for all affected people now.
