How to enable two step verification in Socialengine websites
Now days online community websites are very popular. Million of users communicate with each other on online communities websites. Online community website not only connect millions of people but also hold their private informations, photos, documents. So user account security is an important priority for every social community websites. Two step verification is an advanced sign-in security feature , which will better protect our online communities websites.
Need of Two step verification
In this age of hacking, and identity thefts, only believe on the login password alone does not guarantee security. Strong and complex password might be hacked, if your password happens to fall into the wrong hands. So here we need to add extra layer of security for our online community website.
Two step verification provide an extra layer of security for our online community websites. To hack the two step verification account, hackers would not only have to know your login credentials, they'd also have to get a hold of your physical device(mobile). Two way authentication makes hacking your site harder.
Socialengine two-step verification plugin
Socialengine doesn't provide the functionality of Two step verification. So we have developed a Two step verification plugin which provide the functionality of two step verification for socialengine websites. This plugin helps to secure the login process and force user to verify the unique code received to their mobile via sms. This is one time process for a specific browser on user system and user needs to verify their mobile number for it. The other advantage of having this plugin is that it protect user’s account from hacking as if someone tries to login from different system then user would immediately knows that someone is trying to access their account and hacker would need verification code to login to the site. Once two step verification plugin is enabled in our socialengine website, we need to first login to our account with usual credentials. We will then receive a uniquely generated verification code to our mobile number via SMS, which we should enter to complete the login process.
How Socialengine Two step verification plugin works
- Enter your Login Credential: Whenever you Login in to Socialengine Website we'll enter our username and password as usual. If the login credentials is valid the we move on the the next Mobile Verification step, otherwise redirect on the same login page.
- Mobile Verification code: After valid login credentials it will ask for mobile verification code which will send on your verified mobile number. If the verification code is match then only we are able to sign in into the website.
Conclusion
Two step verification plugin helps to secure the login process and force user to verify the unique code received to their mobile via sms. This is one time process for a specific browser on user system and user needs to verify their mobile number for it. The other advantage of having this plugin is that it protect user’s account from hacking as if someone tries to login from different system then user would immediately knows that someone is trying to access their account and hacker would need verification code to login to the site.
