The 27 drop moody new music video for 'Run'

The 27 are an exciting new band with a following including none other than Beyonce, and have recently dropped their debut video for single ‘Run’. The video follows the story of frontman Henry Parker, who alternately sits backstage playing guitar, hangs out with a gang of groupies, and runs along the beach, pursuing something inexplicable.

The song is “about growing up and becoming an adult,” says Parker, “not knowing exactly what that means or entails”. The video reflects this uncertainty perfectly, with Parker sitting in the middle of the groupies’ evocative foam fight. It’s an interesting idea to combine the realised childhood dream of the rockstar lifestyle with wistful stares towards the camera interspersed with shots of Parker playing guitar alone. This is the perfect metaphor for the uncomfortable transition from teenage to adult - not knowing quite what you want or where you belong; the feeling that what you wished for wasn’t all it was cracked up to be.

The song itself blends 60s nostalgia with ultra-modern drum grooves and a timeless summery feeling. The influence of friend Margo Price’s country-Americana know-how is also evident, as is the input of British producer Mike Hurst, who took the Oxford-born musician under his wing.

The band have earned their success thus far the hard but traditional way - through gigging in small venues such as London’s Troubadour and Bush Hall. This has gained them a following, leading to the 40k views that this new video has amassed.
