Leaf Bugs

Leaf bugs (Latin: Pentatomidae) are a type of ladybug with a broad, pentagonal shield-shaped body and five-segmented antennae, emitting an unpleasant odor. These insects are found in tropical and subtropical regions and can transmit several plant viruses.

Their eggs are laid in clusters on host plants. The hatched nymphs resemble the adults, except their wings are incomplete. The nymphs develop into adults through incomplete metamorphosis. Among these bugs, the most well-known is the green leaf bug (Nezara viridula).

Many stink bugs and shield bugs are considered agricultural pests because they can form large populations that feed on crops (damaging yields), and they are resistant to many pesticides. They pose a threat to cotton, corn, sorghum, soybeans, ornamental plants, shrubs, vines, weeds, and many other cultivated crops.

This ladybug is a type of predator that plays an important role in regulating the population dynamics of insect pests in crops and is commonly found in various agroecosystems in Indonesia. These ladybugs can live in various ecosystems, including food crop agroecosystems, vegetable agroecosystems, and plantations.
