Cloudflare to launch NET Dollar, a stablecoin for the agentic future

Cloudflare’s NET dollar will enable agentic payments at the speed of the Internet.

In a September 25 press release, the leading connectivity company, Cloudflare, introduced the NET dollar, a United States Dollar-pegged stablecoin that will power global, secure transactions in the agentic future.

Backed 1:1 with the USD, the NET dollar is aimed at powering new business models for the Internet, rewarding originality and sustaining creativity.

Cloudflare acknowledges the fundamental changes to how humans interact with the web in an AI-powered era. With tasks delegated to autonomous AI agents such as booking flights, Internet-based research and ordering groceries, the NET dollar is introduced as a critical solution for the much needed evolvement of the current underlying financial system.

Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare says that the Internet's next business model will be pay-per-use, where fractional payments and micro-transactions rules, he added:

For decades, the business model of the Internet ran on ad platforms and bank transfers. The Internet’s next business model will be powered by pay-per-use, fractional payments, and microtransactions—tools that shift incentives toward original, creative content that actually adds value,” said Matthew Prince, co-founder and CEO of Cloudflare. “By using our global network, we are going to help modernize the financial rails needed to move money at the speed of the Internet, helping to create a more open and valuable Internet for everyone.

This comes a week after Google announced the launch of Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), a payment-agnostic framework for users, merchants, and payments providers to transact with confidence across all types of payment methods.

Cloudflare is one of over 60 companies contributing to AP2, and is also a part of x402, an open protocol for Internet-native payments, developed by Coinbase.

While not disclosed, Cloudflare’s NET dollar may leverage existing open protocols to enable AI agents to make automated payments through the Internet.

The stablecoin is set to modernize the payments ecosystem for the agentic future, offering an Internet-native payment system that is fast, secure, and globally accessible.
