A Visit from the Past

“Oh my God, he is here, he really is here, Nelly!” I heard my colleague and friend Joyce say.

“Who is here?” I asked confused.

“Nelly, he is coming up already”, I saw Joyce panic.

“Joyce, who in God’s name is coming?” I yelled at her.

“John..son,” Joyce stuttered.

“Johnson? Like Johnson?” I asked.

“The very Johnson you know,” Joyce said concern laced in her voice.

Before I could process everything, Johnson was already in my office.

“Good morning Nelly,” Johnson greeted, giving me the charming smile I fell for months ago.

“Good morning to you too,” I replied plainly.

“Nelly, I am sorry, I am really sorry. I am sorry I hurt you. I regret my decision every single day,” Johnson pleaded.

“Okay, no problem,” I said dryly.

Johnson handed me a bouquet and a note.

“Nelly, can we please pick up from where we stopped?” Johnson smiled.

“We? Johnson, there is no we, and I made that clear months ago,” I said.

“But Nelly, why?” Johnson asked sadly.

“Johnson, I forgive you, but I cannot return to that toxic relationship. It was nice while it lasted but right now we have to go our separate ways. Thanks for the flowers Johnson but I can’t accept them. Goodbye.

I gave Johnson back the flowers and shut the door of my office.

Trembling and gasping for breath, I held my table tight for support as memories of Johnson and me flood my mind.
Not being able to suppress the knot in my stomach I wept uncontrollably.

I thought I was over Johnson already, I thought I was completely healed. I spent months trying to heal just to go back to square one after seeing his face.

Nelly, you’ll be fine, if not now but very soon. I said to myself.

What do I see?
I can see a girl holding a bouquet and a note is attached to the bouquet as well.

What do I feel?
I feel the bouquet is a gift from a loved one.
