My GPU Mining Experience

Rig Built.jpg

The photo above is my current GPU Mining rig. It is a basic metal frame open air rig with a H110-D3A-CF Gigabyte Motherboard, a 1200w Thermaltake Power Supply, 2.9ghz Celeron G3930 CPU, 8GB RAM. It uses a USB stick instead of a hard drive. It's currently installed with NicehashOS and gets around 152MH. All cards are overclocked and run on the low power setting (60%)

As you can see above it is a mixed rig, mainly running 1660ti's.

I started mining with a used GTX 1060 6GB which I bought second hand for $150 AUD ($108 USD). I used this in my spare PC 24/7 which also runs bots and nodes etc. It worked well and is still working well today, using Nicehash Quickminer.

I then decided to upgrade my gaming PC. So I went and bought all the components new and built my own basic intel gaming PC, with a Gigabyte RTX 2060.

At the time this build cost me around $1300 AUD ($932 USD) because gpu prices were high. But I mined with this card 24/7 using Nicehash Quickminer which helped offset the cost of my build and it continues to pay for itself today with no problems.

After this I seen a used rig for sale for $600 AUD ($430 USD) so I bought it. It had a near new power supply, frame, motherboard, sata hdd, ram, risers, cables etc. so it was just plug and mine for me once I got some GPU's

I purchased a few used GPU's and some new ones like this Asus 1660ti and slowly built my rig up to full capacity.

I like the 1660ti as it uses less power, since I don't have solar, keeping running costs low and still being profitable is my goal, so this GPU is perfect for my needs.

I tried Hiveon HiveOS briefly, so you can see some of my specs, I overclock the memory to about 1050, it can go higher, but all round I find this more stable with enough hash rate increase. I run on low power to keep costs down. Basically the goal is to be as efficient as possible with using the cheapest cards and the lowest power, while still making a good return on investment.

I'd love to see a GPU Mining community on PeakD, as I plan to mine with GPU's well into the future even if Ethereum stops POW. I only mine Ethereum but I have invested in other coins and maybe I will mine them one day. Coins such as Ravencoin, Beam, Conflux, Flux and I like Render as well, slightly different but a cool project.

So far I have had one 1060 6gb die on me, but it was old and used so I just upgraded. I plan I mining with my 8 cards for now and continue to invest the profits. From there I want to build an 8 or 12 GPU rig. As long as I am in profit then that is good enough for me, as I think it is an interesting hobby and it's fun.

Comment below on if you are into GPU mining and anything else related to the topic. Happy Mining!
