Once again, we have the opportunity to harvest fresh fruit, in this case, Pomalacas

Whenever I can, it's a privilege for me to show you the fruits that nature gives us the opportunity to enjoy fresh, seasonal fruit. The best part is that they're completely free since they're right here near the house, just a few meters away. The orchard belongs to my uncle, and it's a real treat for us to be able to go and pick some delicious Pomalacas.

The plant has grown quite a bit, and it has a peculiarity: climbing it is difficult because it has hardly any low hooks to lean on, and almost all the fruit is at the top of the plant. So, the best option for me is to wait for them to fall on their own and keep an eye out to check on them from time to time to see if we can enjoy them, because there's a lot of competition from my uncle's grandchildren and the rest of the family, who all love them.

Just a few moments ago I went to check on it, since I hadn't been there for a few days (I was busy enjoying the World Cup and doing other things). I noticed that one of the hooks had been broken, but that wasn't the worst part. Seeing the large amount of fruit that was lost there is something we can't allow; it's a crime against nature, which so kindly gives us the opportunity to enjoy its bounty, and the fact that we aren't able to take care of it seems very regrettable to me.

But anyway, putting aside that issue that bothers me so much, I was happy to find two perfectly ripe Pomalacas, although a bit bruised, I imagine because of the height from which they fell. But when I tasted them, they were delicious. Fresh fruit at its peak season is undoubtedly wonderful. And it's not just us who appreciate what nature offers us, but also the birds that come to eat it. It's a shame that when they do, they fall to the ground, but they leave evidence on the fruit that they enjoyed it, with the very characteristic marks of their beaks that are clearly visible.
