Announcement: HivePosh plugs into Reddit
Hey! Your Hive backup witness, HiveTrending, is here with some exciting news. For the past few months, Iโve been volunteering dev time on the HivePosh project. My main goal is and has been to plug Reddit into POSH.
Sign in and link a Reddit account to a Hive account
The first key pieces of this are already up and running. If youโve visited the Hiveposh.com site recently, you may have noticed a button to sign in with Reddit. Anyone can go there now and link their Reddit account to their Hive account.
Which Subreddits are Fair Game?
Right now, you can post Hive links in any subreddit, and RedditPosh will pick it up. Subreddits are pretty isolated, and we want to encourage folks to post in places where non-Hivers hang out. So, sometime in the future, RedditPosh will ignore Hive-centric subreddits like /r/Ecency, /r/LeoFinance, /r/Actifit, etc.
Does it work the same as Twitter POSH?
Just like the Twitter integration, RedditPosh will watch for links posted to Reddit. This includes two types of Reddit posts: links and text. Once a valid link is found, RedditPosh will add a comment on the Hive blog post that was linked to. This comment will link back to the Reddit post and, where applicable, mention Hive users who registered their Reddit accounts before sharing the Hive content. Take a look at @redditposh/comments to see RedditPosh in action.
HivePOSH Linked Account API
HivePosh also has an API that other apps can use to request info about linked accounts. PeakD already uses this to show Twitter profile info, for example. The HivePOSH API has been expanded to include Reddit account info. For devs interested in using this API, please reach out for more information.
Can you earn POSH Rewards for sharing links on Reddit?
Rewards! While account linking and Reddit streaming are online, the posh rewards system isnโt wired up yet. In the future, itโll work similarly to TwitterPosh rewards. Think POSH token distribution and Hive comment rewards distribution. Web2 post engagement data (Reddit karma) will be factored into rewards.
So Many Frontends - Open Source Module
As a by-product of Posh, we also spun off a new open-source JavaScript module called โso-many-frontends.โ This module exports Posh's code for parsing Hive content URLs and the list of Hive front-end domains that Posh watches for.
Pull requests are welcome if devs want to add their domain names to the Posh list! This should make it easier for community owners to get their sites into the Posh tracking flow for Twitter, Reddit, and other Web2 platforms added in the future.
Thanks for reading, and happy POSHing!
P.s. shout out to @acidyo and
@rishi556, who helped me get started on this project.
