Vengurla a small beautiful Town

Hello, travelers, friends, and community!

Vengurla is a small coastal town located in Maharashtra, India, on the southwest coast of the country. When we travel we don't mind the size of the places or how fancy/luxurious they are, and this place is close to us because we live in this district. Maybe this way I am introducing a new traveling destination for those who looking for a peaceful, less crowded, simple but attractive destination.

Historically, Vengurla was known as a safe and natural port and became a commercial center established by Dutch traders in the 1600s. Later, British rulers also recognized its significance. Today, remnants of this history can be seen in the old buildings that still stand in the town. After India gained independence, Vengurla transitioned into a fishing harbor. Recently, locals in the area have been developing a broader tourism industry.

Situated just north of Goa, Vengurla is surrounded by a semicircular range of hills adorned with lush green foliage, primarily featuring cashew, mango, and coconut trees. The region also boasts green fields of rice and finger millet, making it especially appealing to nature lovers and those seeking relaxation. The beautiful waters, long stretches of white sandy beaches, and relatively uncrowded environment attract both foreign visitors and local tourists. We had a visit from my two teenage nephews so we planned a trip to Vengurla for kayaking on a river that flows into the Arabian Sea. Vengurla is not so far from our house so we easily can get there in 25 minutes by car.

Entering Vengurla I wanted to go to a shop in town but my nephews were so impatient and excited to get on the beach and kayak. so we went directly toward the Harbor.

Vengurla port or harbor is the endpoint of the road. To get to the beach, you must park 1 kilometers before the harbor. previously there was no access to the beach across the narrow Karli river other than swimming the short distance in the current current.

Recently this pedestrian bridge has been built and people can walk or cross the river to get easy access to the beach and enjoy blue clear clean water or rent a kayak.

When we kayaking we went around this island to find some special animals or birds. But the guide said we couldn't stay long at that place beyond that. It is a nature reserve area after this they keep visitors away to protect mangroves and some special animals. Tsunami waves hit the west coast of India this lsland is appears named Tsunami Island.

When we were crossing the bridge we met the kayak company agent and without wasting time we ordered two kayak boats from him. It costs per person $2 for half an hour

We came down where they had several boats. Luckily the boss happened to be my good friend's son and he gave us a little discount we paid less than whatever other tourists were paying. There was a lot of competition in this business Many fishermen families were involved in this business because the fishing has not been doing well.

it was a relaxing atmosphere. we are tired from some construction work on our land and don't get time for outing often, but today's trip gave us a very relaxing time and good feelings.

The tour guide didn't leave us alone; he told us to turn around because the nature reserve has restrictions to prevent people from disturbing some birds or animals. we turned back towards the sea.

This is our small trip to Vengurla and a different kind of experience. thank you. How to get Vengurla? Can come from Mumbai/Bombay by bus, train, or plane. If taking Bombay Vengurla or Sawantwadi easy but tiring travel. Traveling by train from Mumbai/Bombay(Kokankrailway) to Kudal Or Sawantwadi and then by taxi (very rare) mostly Rikshya. Or a Mumbai Goa plane and then a taxi is a time-saving journey.
