Capricorn Rangoli

Hello, alien artisan community and friends! It’s been almost a year since my last post here. In India, there’s always something happening, especially when it comes to our traditional activities. One of the first festival that starts for the new year is Makar Sankranti, also known as Uttarāyana, Makara, or simply Sankrānti. This Hindu observance marks a mid-winter harvest festival celebrated annually on January 14th.

Makar Sankranti signifies the transition of the sun from the zodiac sign of Sagittarius (Dhanu) to Capricorn (Makara). This transition coincides with the sun's movement from south to north, and the festival is dedicated to the solar deity, Surya, the Sun. It is observed as a time for new beginnings and is celebrated in various ways across the country.

In my area, we invite friends and neighbors, especially married women, to celebrate with us. We offer gifts and sweets made from sesame and jaggery. Additionally, we decorate our front doors with colorful designs known as rangoli, using colored stone powder.

For this occasion, I made a rangoli that represents Capricorn. I believe this community is the perfect place to share this kind of artwork!

First, I drew the shape and design using chalk.

I had not used any compass or string to make circles I had adjusted them according to my progress in design

colors I need to mix and find some shade for certain parts of rangoli. These are not perfect pro colors.

started with yellow-colored rangoli.

It was a little difficult to find the perfect shade i used the yellow and orange mix to stimulate energy and happiness.

I almost finished the goat with a lemon-colored shade.

and started the tail and surrounding design with green-colored rangoli for cooling effects.

Filling colors and keeping the line in order using Q-tips.

Here I used a toothpick to make some smooth lines effects.

The Capricorn symbol is in the center of the red circle and represents the sun, we believe Sun and Capricorns together provide strength and energy.

After that, I drew one by one circle using the white rangoli and toothpick.

I use my finger to make a nice border.
