Dragon Update, and some soap boxing.
Dragon has been with us for not quite a week now and he is already so, so loved.
Two different women communicated with me about him when I said I would take him after seeing his picture including the words "free cat".
The first woman told me they were giving him away because their older cat didn't like him much, and she is dying, so they want to give her a peaceful passing.
The second woman said it was because he is not a lap cat and she needs a lap cat. They apparently couldn't keep their stories straight.
Dragon got lucky. Not every pet given away for free will. Many will end up as bait animals in fighting rings. Many will get no vet needs taken care of. After all, they can just get another free one when the first one dies.
Please do not do that to your pets. Pets are family, they are a life long responsibility, not something to pass along when it gets out of kitten or puppy age.
Do your research BEFORE getting a pet. Kittens can be holy freaking terrors. If you aren't getting two (two kittens is recommended for the kitty's well being) you are going to have to be involved in making sure kitty gets enough physical and mental stimulation.
A bored kitty is a destructive kitty. A kitty unsocialized from an early age is how you get "asshole cats" who don't want to be your lap ornament.
In the short time we have had him, Dragon has shown a ton of personality. He loves the dogs, will follow me from room to room demanding attention and loves to purr for a good loving session.
He gets handled and loved on every day and already he has grown comfortable being held for a minute instead of instantly struggling to get away.
Oh yeah, and he gets a LOT of play time. He's still just a baby, 10 months old.
I'm 33 years old and have always had cats in my life. Never once have I had a mean cat. Learn to read their language, learn to behave in a respectful way. Enjoy them and give them a reason to enjoy you.
Adopt your next pet intead of shopping. And support people like @animalshelter who dedicate themselves toward helping animals.
Thanks for reading! Sorry it got a little preachy. ;)
