BB-8 Drawing Tutorial

Greetings Hive friends!

Just thought I would give this a go. Something more fun and happy than the melancholy paintings running around in my mind. So here we go, grab some tea and let's draw stuff.

A huge amount of drawings start with a simple circle, divided into quarters. It helps me figure out where things need to go. The circle is for the main body, the lines on top are to mark out where the head should go. These steps are dreadfully boring, but necessary, take enough time to get these simple things right, it'll be worth it.

Add the head, using the lines as guides, I find it easier to use basic curves and straight lines to build out the shapes, then refine later.

Add details for the head. Starting with the easiest and biggest details helps me get everything in the right places so that the little details will be easier to add later on.

Continue to add details, using larger easier details as guides for where the fiddlier bits need to go.

Now for the body, once again, start simple. Just a bunch of basic circles but worth taking the time to get the placement of these right.

Add rest of the easy basic details using the circles as guides.

Finish off the sketch by adding the last details, you might need to adjust things a little bit in this step, depending on the accuracy of the previous details. When starting out this can be challenging but it definitely gets easier.

Finally, do the permanent lines in ink, making any last adjustments where necessary. This is my favourite step as everything looks all nice and neat after rubbing out the pencil lines.

Add some colour! I used acrylic marker and coloured marker (I do not have an orange acrylic marker for some reason) Shading can also be added, but I chose not as I wanted a flatter looking image.
