Welcome Home

Watching the Notre Dame fire affected me deeply. In my spare time I’m involved in medieval/historical recreation, and aside from the sheer loss of history, I had always dreamed of one day visiting that cathedral. Something about it over all the other great cathedrals of Europe drew my fascination like no other. Watching her burn seemed eerie with the spiritual implications. Europe has been seeing much turmoil as of late, and many Christian churches have been the recipients of significant attacks (arson, desecration with human excrement, intended destruction by other means). It doesn’t take a magnifying glass for the spiritually-minded to see the forces of darkness hard at work in and against the houses of God.

But God Himself is So. Much. Bigger. than any building, anywhere. His protection and mercy extends graciously to all of us if we wish it. He hasn’t just already won the battle — He’s already won the war.

I painted this after seeing the inside pictures of the sanctuary — all I could imagine when looking at the beautiful golden cross rising out of the rubble was Jesus standing behind it, welcoming people back into HIS house. “For no weapon formed against you shall prevail.” (Isaiah 54:17)
