What role can Hive play for open source software?

As you can see from the posts by @blocktrades, the community great value in the work put into developing open source hive software. There are also some at Proposals that support the development of open source hive projects.

I can imagine that the community will be happy to support other open source projects if the developers write posts about their contributions and show how they help all users. In my eyes Hive has the potential to revolutionize the development of open source software and let many developers work as independent open source contributors. This potential just needs to be harnessed. Is there already a community that supports open source developers?
