How Do You Earn Curating Content?

What is meant when someone refers to earning money on Hive by creating content. I have read a couple of things which described it as upvoting other peoples content, but to my mind that is not curating content?

I am still wet behind the ears here on Hve, and Web 3.0 period. I would love to learn more, but wouldn’t content curation entail more than that. Then, how does that work in regards to being spammy, unoriginal or creating duplicate content?

Any pointers and tips and tricks for success and adding value to the platform would be very welcomed.
