Steemit Open Mic Week 84 - Getaran Jiwa - P.Ramlee

This is a very popular Malaysian song written by the great P. Ramlee. He is regarded as a prominent icon of our Malaysian entertainment.

P. Ramlee was born in 1929 and he was a very talented actor, singer, director, songwriter, composer and producer. Getaran Jiwa is one of his most well known song, which everyone here in Malaysia loves. It's as famous as our national anthem :) Translated it means 'Soul's Vibrations". He wrote this song for a movie which he acted in called Antara Dua Darjat in the 1960's.

This arrangement that I'm playing was done by an English composer who composed many pieces for the classical guitar, John Duarte. He arranged this theme which I'm playing here, along with 5 variations on this theme. I hope to do a recording of that soon. He wrote this in 1996 when he came to Malaysia. I also had the pleasure of meeting him and I was actually the second person to play this piece in public in 2008. John Duarte passed away in 2004. This piece of music is truly an example of how music can unite people of different cultures and backgrounds.

Tomorrow, 9th of May is a very important day for Malaysian history. We will be casting our votes that could determine and change the future of our country. I hope and pray that we will have a peaceful and fair election and that all Malaysians listen to their soul's vibrations and cast their votes wisely..
