The Need To Take Action

Hello my fellow hivians! How are you all doing ? I hope everything is going on well. There are moment in life when we are required to do more rather than complain. Taking action is very important in life . When we see problem we should not sit and watch , we need to stand up and do something.This happened when I realized that speaking up is not only about me but about helping others too . The need for me to help came when my compound kept on recieving high estimated electricity bills, even though the hardly give us light

At first, I did what everyone else did. I complained, compared bills with neighbours . But month after month, the high estimated bill kept coming . This does not make sense, action need to be taken. Action brings change while doing nothing allows problems to grow .If we keep quiet the problem will continue and we will end up paying for what we did not use. The worst part is that no body in my compound was ready to do anything about it. Everyone was busy going after their businesses and also tired of complaining.

One day I decided to take action . I told myself , if nobody wants to act.may be I should. I called one of my neighbours to accompany me to the NEPA office . I was not even sure what I will expect but I had to try.

When we got to the NEPA office , it was filled with people from different places with different problems of no light, transformer problem, wrong billing and some faulty meter. Seeing other people in the NEPA office gave me hope

When it was my turn , I explained our situation, no light and estimated bill , the staff checked our account and confirmed that our bill were not based on actual meter readings . I requested that they should send someone to check the meter in our compound and take proper readings . I was happy the agreed to come . The NEPA officials come and inspected our meter , corrected the error and adjusted our bill to a more reasonable amount and also work on restoring our light.

That one visit thought me that real change start when someone decides to take action and make a difference .I did not do it for myself alone but for everyone in the compound. It reminds me that silence helps no one but one voice , one step can lead to real change.
