Kuril Islands

Hello Travel Friends,

We have finally crossed the treacherous North Pacific Ocean and now have only 35 nautical miles (63 km) to go. In this post, I want to highlight the Russian Kuril Islands, the most beautiful islands I've seen.

The peaks were covered in clouds, making the island look small, but it wasn't; we were just 12 nautical miles (24 km) from passing into Russian territory. It took us 7 days to reach the crossing. The first 3 days were spent motoring, which was boring until we got some fresh north winds that not only brought wind but also 1-degree Celsius temperatures.

During my shift, we passed this particular island, but I didn't get to see it because there was so much fog. I went to rest, but my brother called me up to see the full island. When I first saw it, I thought it was fake; it looked so good that I wondered, "Is this really real?"

Not only did we have an amazing view of the island, but we also saw the sunrise on the other side, making it one of the best 360-degree drone shots I've ever done. I'll feature it in future posts.

Now it's time to rest, acclimatise to the new time zone, and explore the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. The first island is Attu, which has a fascinating World War II history that I can't wait to share with you all.
