A Landfill Like No Other

Scenic natural beauty and the garbage dump are not often two words I would think of together, but the other day I got to have those descriptors occupy the same brain space at the same time, it was marvelous!

As we are out in the middle of the wilderness, if we need to go to the landfill to dump any sort of large amount of things, we have to cross some mountains to Libby, Montana.

The Libby Transfer Station is a bit out of town, conveniently on the downhill side of the mountain pass road we have to traverse to get to it. We had a dump trailer full of building waste, and after speaking to the lovely dump attendant, who gave us candy and the corg a biscuit, we pulled up on top of the land fill mountain to dump our wares.

As we ascended, the first delightful sight that greeted us was some discarded stuffed animals of hefty dimensions perched atop some old heavy equipment tires. I may have emitted sounds of delight.

But it was the view on top of the landfill that took my breath away (No it wasn't the stink, it wasn't a very stinky dump at all). I hopped out of the truck and bolted to the edge of the hill, marveling at the ring of mountain peaks in front of me. Bald eagles soared through my view and I was just in a state of enrapturement at the beauty of it all.

At the dump. It was a sight of serene and gorgeous beauty. On top of a landfill, in the Northwestern Montana woods. I swear there is always a surprise to be had in our days.

Later, after a lovely cheeseburger basket, I also got another delight of the day, a two scoop waffle cone. I mean, how awesome was my day? I got to drive through the mountains with the hubs and the corg, engage in some delightful conversation, summit a mountain of man made refuse only to behold some of the prettiest landscape on this earth, devour a tasty cheesburger, and then, to top it off, eat ice cream for like the first time in two months (HUCKLEBERRY CHEESECAKE ICE CREAM SQUEE!!).

It was a good day.

But then again, everyday, even the hard ones, are good days. I have been working so hard lately. But, as many a friend and family member has been frequently pointing out, I tend to work hard all the time. I have no complaints about it, it's just who I am. I mean, even yesterday I was on the side of a mountain, brandishing a chainsaw and bucking a downed spruce out of the road. This morning I baked a chocolate Guinness cake. You never know what I am going to be up too, and you know what, I am not sad about it. I may be tired frequently, but boy oh boy am I ever ALIVE.
