My Seychelles Getaway: White Sands, Giant Tortoises and Great Food

Leaving Germany, I had no idea my Seychelles holiday would start with a hiccup. The beaches, especially Anse Source d’Argent, are breathtaking — huge granite boulders sculpted by centuries of waves frame shallow lagoons that look straight out of a dream. I even tried transparent kayaking, gliding over coral gardens and watching schools of fish dart below me in crystal-clear water.

A Taste of the Islands

Food in Seychelles is an experience of its own. One evening, I enjoyed a massive seafood platter — grilled prawns, octopus, crab, and local vegetables served with a squeeze of lemon. Every bite tasted like the ocean itself. Dining by the sea with the sound of waves in the background made it all the more perfect.

Encounters and Moments

One of the highlights was meeting the Aldabra giant tortoises, ancient creatures that seem to move through time at their own pace. Watching them up close was humbling — they’ve lived through centuries, and their calm presence mirrors the spirit of Seychelles.

Another moment that stayed with me was standing on the rugged cliffs of Mahé, staring down at the wild sea. The rocks were carved by the elements, and the wind carried that unmistakable scent of salt and freedom.

My stay in Seychelles reminded me of something simple yet profound — slowing down isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. From the calm beaches and tropical forests to the laughter of locals and the rhythm of island life, everything there invites you to pause and breathe.
