Go to Utila
These are pictures of Utila, a relatively small island, about 6 miles long-2 miles wide, off of the coast of Honduras, it is about 18 miles off-shore from the city of La Ceiba, where I live. The island has somewhere around 6,000 inhabitants living in the main town, plus a few hundreds who live on the Utila Cays, which are 13 very small islands just a few hundred feet in length and are located a few miles to the north-west of the town.
Ok, so what can you do here? Well, it is very well known as the cheapest place to get a divers certificate in the Western Hemisphere, if not the World. It also has a few small beaches, and just walking down the streets is a nice adventure in itself, the place has a lot of tourists who walk around as do the locals. Not many people work here, most of the locals are either offshore working on boats or vessels or some work in the USA.
The original inhabitants are descendants from English people who came here mostly from Cayman or a few who came from the US or Jamaica, this immigration happened in the 19th century. So the language of the original locals is English with its Caribbean accent, but lately there has been a steady influx of people from the coast so Spanish is also widely spoken.
It has all commodities you can expect, a few good hotels, some very good restaurants, local boat tours, a discreet night life and very good vibes. If you ever come to Honduras, be sure you visit Utila, I can asure you you won't regret it. And it is quite cheap.
