What Tesla And Other Self-Driving Car Companies Are Hiding From You

Since the 1800s when vehicles were invented, technology has heavily advanced. Car manufacturers are endlessly developing vehicles that are improving transportation. Currently, there are cars that do not require a driver behind the wheel. Despite what many say, these cars are not as efficient as one would think. Driverless cars are expensive, many legal issues can arise, and they are very unsafe at times. This article will show what self-driven cars need to improve on, and the reasons why driverless automobiles are not sensible to buy right now.

Regulations
Many people would disagree that laws would not have to be changed; however, new laws and regulations need to be added. In the scenario of an accident, there will be multiple questions as to who is at fault. Would it be the passenger, the computer designer, or the car company? As a result, legal issues like this could take years to figure out who is to blame. Another issue that arises is the fact that the cars are not programmed to pull over for emergency vehicles such as an ambulance, police car, or even a firetruck. This is a serious problem that could danger the lives of several innocent civilians.

Unaffordable Expenses
Regardless of what many people say, driverless cars are expensive. Many people live on a small minimum wage budget that does not allow them to afford such a pricy vehicle. Making a car completely self-driving would add at least $10,000 to its price. Not only are numerous people unable to afford them but also car dealerships lose thousands of dollars a day while these cars sit waiting to be sold. Another roadblock is that road maps must be constantly updated which adds another expense to the consumer and the dealership. All in all, these cars are not worth the price.

Driving Capability
Technology can be unpredictable. Without warning, the computer system could malfunction causing the vehicle to not perform as intended. It has been proven that self-driven cars have problems figuring out when objects such as bits of trash are harmless, so they can change course for no reason. This can cause the vehicle to get in an accident. This alone defeats the purpose of owning a self-driven vehicle because you will have to be ready at all times to take the wheel. Deadly crashes could be caused by a single piece of paper on the road. Furthermore, it shows that self-driving cars are unable to navigate unexpected obstacles as of right now.

My Thoughts
I’m actually very supportive of self-driving cars. My issue lies in the clear image that these companies try to sell when in reality we're nowhere near that technology yet. Until these self-driving cars really evolve for where I'm comfortable sleeping in the back seat, I won't be buying one anytime soon. I like where society is going and I believe it's a very positive thing to have these types of cars, but I do hope that there will still be cars manufactured that have an option to drive.
