Mystic Nothing

History repeats itself, we know that. Yet, in the world of art, it’s more than that. I recently read an article about Jean Michel Basquiat, that stressed on the fact that the art worldand the art scene 30 years ago is so similar to the art world today. Especially valid for thrifty art (yet, Raluca Rosu is another story).
And in it, the author mentioned how stores, apartments, large, obsolete industrial backgrounds were the display places of choice for the rather experimental art of the 80ies. We didn’t have that, back then, since communist Romania and its artists had other concerns, but we sort of have it now – since the recently ended Romanian Design Week took place in stores just as much as in proper art venues – and also in the Palatul Telefoanelor.
Just in the middle of RDW, I went to see Mystic Nothing, an art opening by a group of apartment artists, exhibiting near Romana Square, in Bucharest. Many styles on the walls of that apartment/gallery.
And I felt in love with this painting, by one of the artists in the group.
