Getting There: Saying Goodbye and Hello - #LaAventuraDeLaVida

~ Aug 28, 2013 ~

It's almost here! It almost seems unreal that I will be flying out in 3 days. I keep trying to tell myself that I need to finish everything because I am FINALLY LEAVING, but then my subconscious says, "No, nothing is really going to happen. The whole thing is just a dream." Then I have to tell my subconscious to go back to its corner and sit down because I AM GOING TO HONDURAS IN THREE DAYS! I'm not really nervous (perhaps I should be more than I am), but I just feel an intense anticipation and readiness to get out of waiting mode and into the thick of things. I know once I get there I may be wishing for the slower pace back, but right now I am just SO ready to launch and start walking the path before me.

Prayer request right now is that my heart doesn't get ahead of my head and I can focus these next few days (and continue to focus and not get overwhelmed with all the new responsibilities and experiences when I get down there).

Mas palabras mas tarde, amigos!

~ Sept 4, 2013 ~

After many hours driving to Houston, a three hour flight to San Pedro Sula, and over two hours on a school bus to get to Siguatepeque, I am here! We've had our first three days at the school, and I am very overwhelmed by everything that I don't (and won't) know. I've also realized just how lacking I am in Spanish. 😳

Please pray for grace and wisdom going forward. I should have Internet at the house in the next week or so. Mas palabras mas tarde!

Vaya con Dios, mi hermanos en Cristo!

Hello there, friends! My name is Bethany, and I love walking out my everyday adventures with Jesus! I spent four of the most challenging and most rewarding years of my life in Honduras teaching English at a mission school for the poorest students in our area. Although I'm a "gringa" on the outside, my heart is "catracha" (what Hondurans call themselves). Those years of daily challenge taught me to look at what I encountered each day not as obstacles, but adventures. I've been back in the U.S for over two years now, but Honduras has never left my heart. I look forward to sharing my past adventures with you, and inviting you into some new ones as well! I know you're probably wondering about "freesinger." The answer is quite simple: I sing freely! I love to sing and worship, and I believe that music has a great power to unlock and bring freedom to our hearts. I don't know if that will come out here as much, but we'll see... ;)
