Powering down

I've just made an account - was worried at first that'd it take a few weeks to confirm (as I've read that has been happening). Luckily no, only took a couple days. Still getting my head around a few things here, my question is this:

I have read a post which says it takes 102 weeks to fully power down. That's a really long time! Is this correct?
