Little Bittern - A Bird Portrait
On one of my urban wildlife photography trips to vienna I could take several pictures of a little bittern fishing in a small pond. And it was a lucky bird that caught a fish and ate it right infront of my lens. :-)
The little bitern is anothe bird that belongs to the heron family and it usually a pretty shy bird, I only saw it on two spots till now, one in Vienna and another in Lower Austria. But It should also live at the Inn River and on several other wetlands that I visit regulary. But till now these were the only to spots where I was lucky. And Vienna is usually the best spot since it is much less shy there because it is used to humans and has a much lower flight distance there. The bird was fishing for it's lunch and it actually caught a fish and ate it directly infront of my lens. It was really funny watching the bird running on all the water lilies that grew there on the lake.
