Common Kestrel using a tree as a watchtower

Common Kestrels or falcons are pretty good hunters for mice, insects and bugs. They are the most common birds of prey here in Austria and probably also in Europe. But still I am happy every time I can take some pictures of them. During the summer time I was able to take these nice pictures of the falcon siting on a tree branch and using it as a watchtower to hunt for mice in the nearby field. I was pretty impressed that it didn't mind that I came pretty close with my camera, and it still didn't flee eventhough I took several pictures of it when standing only a few meters away from it.

Eventhough the color of the green tree differs a lot from the feathers of the falcon it is not so easy to spot it from far away. Picture: Glorian Glechner
