Austrian Mountain Landscape in Kaprun

Kaprun is a Power Plant with several big water retention basins that server as storage for water and to store excess energy by pumping water up the mountain. If the Energy is needed the water flows down through some turbines to generate Energy. In Summer some years ago I visited Kaprun and the High mountain lakes for some hiking and taking some nice pictures of the landscape there. But you can also find some nice wildlife like birds and marmots there. The view is great and if you don't want to climb all the way up there is also a cable car and a bus that brings you up the mountain to the water reservoirs.

If you are on the mountains in the summer you need to be prepared for cold and warm weather. It changed very quickly and I had to undress all the warm coats when the sun came out. But while it was still foggy it was pretty cold with a little bit of cold wind too. Sun protection is also very important since often I don't feel the strong sun because of colder air and wind. But I managed to get a sunburn up there very easily.

This year I still haven't visit the higher mountains here in Austria and I don't know if I will but when I still have some free time in August or September I might consider it a good Idea. Since I live in Upper Austria in the plains I have to drive quite a bit to get to the Alps and depending on my other plans for this year I still don't know if I manage to find enough free time to visit the mountains this year also for some hiking.

I also have to admit that I am a bit out of training at the moment since I haven't been hiking in the mountains this year. I would probably struggle to do some hiking trips that are a bit more exhausting but probably easy ones wouldn't be that much of a problem. Up in the mountains I like to enjoy some good food and yeast dumplings with vanilla sauce and poppy seeds with sugar is probably one of my favorite dishes I can get up there in the mountains.
