Stand your ground and self-defense laws.
So far as I can tell every state in the USA can be roughly broken down into three categories when it comes to self-defense:
1: Stand your ground.
2: Duty to retreat.
3: Somewhere in the middle.
I've made it clear that I'm on the side of stand your ground.
Still, think about the people who want the laws changed because Rittenhouse didn't break Wisconsin law.
Really, Rittenhouse didn't even break Massachusetts law which does require that a person retreat and be cornered before using deadly force.
Under the letter of the law Rittenhouse went above and beyond the Wisconsin requirements for use of force in self-defense and probably operated within the parameters of the strictest states in the country. He was always retreating and he was always cornered before firing.
The people who want the laws changed to put Rittenhouse in jail are literally arguing that self-defense should be illegal.
