Attenuating gerrymandering.

At least a few of the people reading this genuinely believe (and not as virtue signaling) that we will be living in a better, more just world, when we have significantly attenuated the number of gerrymandered congressional districts.

2021's HR1 (like 2019's HR1) would have gone a good way toward's moving us to that end. As in 2019, HR1 is unlikely to pass. One of the reasons that it is unlikely to pass is because HR1 is stuffed with countless other provisions that are unrelated to solving the gerrymandering problem.

Using gerrymandering as political theater might be great for fundraising and exciting the base, but it's terrible for our country. As of right now, virtually every democrat I talk to (or see comment on the topic) wants to increase gerrymandering, not decrease it.

Various states have had good success in attenuating gerrymandering by the use of state laws.

The anti-gerrymandering provisions of H.R. 1 are excellent, which is why it's a tragedy that Democrats have intentionally crippled them by bundling them with a host of other unpopular provisions.

We live in a better world because we did not give up on civil rights, even though it was a struggle to get that legislation passed.

The long campaign against gerrymandering deserves the same dedication.
