Flashback to my Machinery Vibration Analysis days

Oh boy, I am having a flashback today.

Back in 1983, I was an FFT Nerd.

FFT means Fast Fourier Transform. In a future blog I can share some of my FFT days but today, I was moving around some mugs that were collecting dust and look at what I found.

I used the Bruel & Kjaer Type 2515 Vibration Analyzer to troubleshoot many problems encountered at several Electric Power Plants in New Brunswick, Canada. Including working at our Nuclear Power Plant.

If you look closely at my mug, it is made with thermoluminescence material. So my hot Chai Tea is causing the spectrum and some configuration settings to display. How cool is that? I mean Hot?

Back in 1983 the analyzer was purchased for around $20,000 Canadian. It was the most advanced portable vibration analyzer in the industry.

A quick search shows they are still available but at a much lower price. The one I am showing is likely not operational but I did see one for $1500 US with a one year warrenty.

Well, that was some time spent on memory lane so it's time to enjoy my Chai Tea and think about my next task.
