NATO Phonetic Alphabet
If you've wondered while watching action movies with some military communications in them and you find them using specific words to spell out the letters in the words they are trying to communicate across then they using something known as the Phonetic Alphabet
I knew what they were called but never learnt all the words for each of the letters in english alphabet until now. I had a few minutes to spare today and was wondering what I could do with my time and learning something new seemed like the way to go.
The NATO phonetic alphabet is a Spelling Alphabet, a set of words used instead of letters in oral communication (i.e. over the phone or military radio). Each word ("code word") stands for its initial letter (alphabetical "symbol"). The 26 code words in the NATO phonetic alphabet are assigned to the 26 letters of the English alphabet in alphabetical order as follows
