Deve ser porque são línguas de comunidades pequenas.
Falando inglês(ou espanhol) como segundo idioma a pessoa possui enormes oportunidades adicionais do que se aprendesse o dialeto de uma comunidade pequena.
Por que na Itália se estuda mais inglês como segunda língua do que os idiomas latim ou etrusco? Ainda existe uma comunidade que utiliza o Latim como língua oficial: o Estado Vaticano.
