Deserve, a five minute freewrite

I deserve it! Lily says, her fist is balled tight, and I can see the knuckles turning white. I look over at Em and roll my eyes.

Here she goes, I communicate with my eyeroll.

Em pretends not to notice, but I see the flicker of a smirk play upon her lips.

I told him, Lily continues, her voice is beginning to shake with the tension of built-up anger. I told him, he has no right to give that job to that bitch, and not me!

But, Em says, playing devil's advocate. It is his company. He's your boss. So, he kinda does have a right...

Lily flashes Em a look that might have killed a lesser woman. But Em has survived worse from Lily, and she takes it on the chin.

Come on, Lily, Em continues. Don't let it spoil our night. Let's go out and live a little.

Lily takes a deep breath, and for a moment, I think she is going to launch into a massive rant. Or maybe cross the room and take a swing at Em.

It wouldn't be the first time.

But instead, I see her fist relax and a smile cross Lily's face.

Yeah, she says. Fuck him.
