Q&A Today With UW Social Work Students

A great session today with students at UW-Eau Claire College of Education and Human Sciences.

Following their viewing of my homelessness documentary "The Wall," Prof. Meinen had me join her students for some Q&A.

They offered insightful questions leading to discussion about the film itself (why it included all it did, how I decided who I'd focus on); my experience making it (people passing away who I'd gotten to know); and then the issue at hand (whether it's beneficial to have encampments, whether sobriety is a realistic expectation).

Their thoughtfulness and heart-filled approach inspired me to share gratitude to them all for going into this field. They're on the front lines of this issue that seems to only worsen, dealing with difficult cases everyday, and are often overlooked in doing so.

And, as pointed out in the discussion, many others would indeed prefer to not have to look at the issue. Meanwhile, so many are in the grip of this lifestyle. So, thank you, Prof. Meinen and your students for dedicating your careers to facing the issue one case at a time. I'm honored that my movie could serve in this purpose and to be able to participate today.
