Behavioural Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to know the following;

  1. Definition of manure
  2. Types of manure
  3. Importance of manure

Previous knowledge:
The pupils should have seen their parent putting animal manure into their garden or farm which is a typical example of manure.

Instructional Material:
The teacher should be able to bring to the pupils a dried animal manure to help the pupils understand the topic more.

Step 1:

What is manure?
Manure is an organic matter, mostly derived from animal feaces which can be used as organic fertilizers in agriculture. Manure is an organic matter used as fertilizers in agriculture.

Step 2:

Types of manure

  1. Animal manure e.g. Sheep, pigs
  2. Human manure e.g. excreta
  3. Compost e.g. decomposed remnants of organic materials
  4. Green manure e.g. leguminous plant

Step 3:

Importance of manure

  1. Good source of macro nutrients
  2. Complete nutrient package
  3. Improve soil quality
  4. Reduces soil erosion risk
  5. Saves money.

Evaluation: To ascertain their level of understanding, the teacher will ask the following questions.

  1. Mention two the importance of manure to the crop.
  2. An example of Human manure is ____________.

Homework:

  1. What is manure
  2. Mention 3 types of manure you know
