Hello community, how are you?
Today I want to congratulate all the women who, like me, had the chance (without planning it, without choosing it, without wanting it) to be moms and dads.
To all of us who are raising, forming, educating and sustaining human beings alone, without knowing how to do it, just doing it.
When this picture was taken, I was 21 years old, 20 years ago
Without having someone to ask for relief.
Without knowing if we are doing it right or wrong.
Without that hug that comes when you need it most and tells you: *You're doing it right.
Without someone to share decisions, anguish, doubts...
Without someone else who loves your children with the same intensity.
Being a mom and a dad is one of the hardest and most difficult tasks, commitments and responsibilities there are.
Not only do you feel that maybe something is missing from your children, that there is a gap that is impossible to fill... but you also have to deal with the external gaze, with the stigmas.
There were times when we were singled out.
They thought we were looking for a father for our children, or that we had done something wrong to be left alone.
They would hang the label single mother on us, as if it were a sentence or a mistake.
We went to soccer games, baseball games, basketball games... even though we didn't understand anything.
We learned about figurines, about hormonal changes, about things no one taught us.
We faced that silent anguish:
Am I doing it right?
And on top of all that, we work, pay bills, support the house, take care of our health, manage the school, and with the fear of stopping for a moment to dream when passing in front of a shop window and wanting to buy something, that voice that stops you arises:
What if you get sick?
What if an emergency arises?
We shop at thrift stores.
For years I wore clothes that were given away, out of fear. Because I had no one but myself to support any unforeseen event.
Today, as I write this, my eyes water, because being a mom and dad is so hard.
And none of us who were them chose it.
We all dreamed of our children having both roles, but it wasn't up to us.
We did the best we could.
And that's enough.
That's brave.
That's heroic.
That's why today I want to congratulate you.
You, who threw a truckload of strength and courage into life.
That you stood up to everyone (and everything) including your own fear.
That you became a heroine without a cape, but with a soul full of love.
**My daughters did not have a father like mine, whom I love and celebrate greatly... yet they had the best mom they could have.
And today I feel deeply proud of that.
And you should feel the same way
However, I also want to dedicate a few lines of this writing to celebrate today the fathers who are there.
To those who accompany with effort, presence and love.
To those who raise with tenderness, responsibility and respect.
To those men who give their best so that their children grow up knowing that they are valuable and loved.
Thank you dad for being there. For choosing to be my dad every day.
And to you, woman who are mom and dad.
To you who are MAP:
Happy day, strong woman, you who are love in its purest form.
Happy day, strong woman, you who are love in its purest form.
If you feel like chatting, you know I'm here with a lot of desire to make real community and for interest.
I leave you a big hug
Hope 💛
