Lemet
Hi everyone, I'm a new Indonesian user. Have you ever tried this Indonesian traditional snack?
This snack is called Lemet. How to pronounce that? Le for Lamp and met like met v3. Lemet. This soft and legit snack is made of cassava. The ripe cassava is grated, and then it is put on banana leaves filled with palm sugar in the middle, then steam it. So simple, right? This traditional food isn't too pricey, but many Indonesians don't seem to be proud of it. Some believe that cassava, sweet potatoes and things like that are called villagers, because those plants are affordable for poor people, and sometimes they eat them if the rice isn't growing. It such an irony, while Koreans are so proud of their sweet potatoes, but not in Indonesia. Sometimes we make it international by making an English name for it to make it a higher price. For example: if we sell just Lemet, they won't be interested in buying it, but if we use the English name for it "Steamed cassava with palm sugar", or maybe Ubi in Indonesia will sell only $1 per Kilogram but when you use "Korean sweet potatoes", they will buy it even it higher price. Hahaha
