Hive & Web2 Outreach Strategies...Will They Blend?

As creators who have found the beautiful balance of creating content and earning rewards on Hive, it's natural for us to want to share what we've discovered with others. After all we've found a place where we are building community where if there are any rewards earned is split amongst both creators and curators who benefited from value given and value received. Of course we'd want to share this "Magic Internet Money" content creation machine...right?

Speaking Gibberish

Yet, when we talk about Web3 in general and Hive more specifically we get eyes glazed over looks or people looking past us to get away as fast as possible from "the crazy lady speaking gibberish"...or perhaps that's just me who gets that sort of reception from the public at large.

This concept is not new to me. I was at the forefront of podcasting and social media back in 2005. So, I'm accustomed to being excited about something I know will revolutionize life and business and having people look at me like I'm off kilter. That's okay. Guess what? Eventually those folks realized I was on to something and asked me to speak on stages or even better, hired me to train and educate their teams.

Web2 Hive Outreach

What does this have to do with the title of this post? We see posts here and on Twitter about how more of the world needs to know about Hive. How we should be growing our community base. How we need to focus on getting the word out across off-chain channels. We can see that in how active the Hive community is on Twitter. As illustrated in hive-dataHive account@hive-data posts:

@hive-data/daily-twitter-data-reports-as-of-jan-4-2023--hive-marketing-graphics-2667-hive-tweets-of-the-day

We see it on the CryptoManiacs show (hosted by jongolsonHive account@jongolson and taskmaster4450Hive account@taskmaster4450) is livestreamed on Twitter in addition to YouTube.

We have folks like brianoflondonHive account@brianoflondon who is blazing a trail in the Podcasting 2.0 space with Podping and the V4Vapp. Kudos to him doing so in a world of Bitcoin Maximalists. Learn more and support the ongoing work:

We see it in the weekly Tuesday #HiveChat on Twitter (disclosure I am part of the #HiveChat team joining traciyorkHive account@traciyork and jeanlucsrHive account@jeanlucsr)
https://twitter.com/search?q=%23hivechat&src=typed_query&f=live

We hear it when theycallmedanHive account@theycallmedan goes live on Twitter Spaces.

Or when #HiveSpace goes live every Tuesday with alessandrawhiteHive account@alessandrawhite, shadowspubHive account@shadowspub and myself) on Twitter.

I've even begun livestreaming the #HiveSpace audio only sessions to:

  • YouTube
  • LinkedIn
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Vimm.tv

I also host a weekly Web3 101 Twitter Space and offer Web3 & Social Media workshops.

Expanding Reach Through Open Web2/Web3 Communities

Want to encourage folks to dip their toe into the Hive waters? Have them join with others. Encourage them to share content they are creating on other platforms outside of Hive. Be open to all and offer encouragement to them in their blogging and social media journey. A couple of examples of this which I believe are excellent models for the development future outreach communities.

The DreemPort community hosted by dreemsteemHive account@dreemsteem has monthly challenges open to all platforms (Web2 & Web3) and continues to see growth and engagement increase month after month.

Pimp Your Post Thursday (PYPT) hosted by shadowspubHive account@shadowspub hosts weekly blog share session on Discord which is also open to posts from all platforms.

There are so many others doing their version of Hive Outreach. Please share what you are doing in the comments. It would be great to gather together a Hive Outreach Resource doc/list. If one already exists, please point me in the right direction.

Hive Ambassadors

I've come to think of us all as Hive Ambassadors. We're a friendly (and sometimes feisty) bunch who are informational, educational, and somewhat entertaining about Web3 and Hive. We're supporting one another's work and are strengthening our relationships and the power of the Hive community is only getting better because of all of the collaboration. Just image where we'll be in the next few years.

Is It Working?

For all that we are doing individually and sometimes collaboratively, are we seeing mass adoption of Hive? Not in the way some may want. What I will say is that I am personally seeing folks lean into what we are doing. They are listening. They are asking questions. They are learning. And when they are ready, they are onboarding. Which as we all know is a time consuming and confusing process.

It may seem like a lot of work for such a small amount of folks who have onboarded through all of our combined efforts. BUT it is working. I say it is. Folks are not beating down the door to join Hive. Nor are they running in the opposite direction. Instead what we have here is a nice slow burn. Which I think is healthier overall for the stability of the chain. Which in my opinion is a very good thing.

So to answer the question posed in the title: Hive & Web2 Outreach Strategies...Will They Blend? <-I think the answer is YES!
