IRON ROSES

july 22 2011 peaceful little norway was plunged into the dark world of terrorism when a single man car bombed a government building then attacked a labor party summer camp and shot and killed 69 people, the majority teenagers

dressed as a police officer he was ferried to the island where the camp was held and was greeted by the camp leader and security officer and killed them both

he called the youth to gather around and when they did

he took out an automatic rifle and opened fire on the unsuspecting crowd

the youth fled in all directions and he chased them down and shot as many as he could

some injured tried to survive by playing dead but he shot them repeatedly

the devil of oslo

there were a few local heroes who aided the many survivors. the incomprehensibly dreadful scene ended when the police finally arrived an hour and a half after the shooting began.

in the aftermath the land was in shock. it was our 911. we couldn't image such evil and were totally unprepared.

it was an attack on the nation. 'everybody' knew somebody who was affected.
of the 564 people on the island 69 were killed and 110 injured

the people's response was to place roses outside oslo cathedral. thousands of roses from all walks of life, from near and far. in the famous words of one young survivor
If one man can show so much hate, think how much love we could show, standing together.
