Solving the Voltage Puzzle in Sudan’s Gold Mines
The Reality of the Field In the middle of the desert, where temperatures soar and equipment is pushed to its limits, Theory often meets a harsh reality. Last week, at a gold mining site in Abri, Northern Sudan, we faced a challenge that every Power Systems Engineer dreads: A critical voltage drop immediately after commissioning a new 100 kVA transformer
The Technical Puzzle The facility was struggling. Large inductive loads were causing the system to stutter. To the untrained eye, it was just a power failure. But to an engineer, it was a battle of Load Balancing and Voltage Regulation.
The Creative Solution In remote areas, you don't always have the luxury of waiting for new parts. We had to innovate. By integrating an 85 kVA self-transformer to stabilize the output and carefully recalibrating the distribution, we managed to restore the "pulse" of the site.
A Lesson for Everyone Whether you are managing a power grid or investing in Blockchain networks, the principle is the same: Resilience is more important than perfection. A system that cannot adapt to peak loads will eventually fail.
is not just about wires and magnets; it’s about solving human problems with logic. I look forward to sharing more insights from my 20+ years in the field with this amazing communi
