Abuse Series: Playing Solitaire

         Self-voting: a sometimes controversial topic on the platform. On principle, there is nothing wrong with appreciating or supporting your own work, especially if you have the stake to enhance their visibility. On the other hand, how much is too much?

         Some of you may be familiar with @sadkitten, an AI (bot) that scans the blockchain for excess self-votes and attempt to counter them until voting pattern changes. The program is developed by @transisto and @personz in an attempt to correct behavior from the bottom up on the platform.

         For many people, when we mention self-votes, a lightbulb immediately shines on the infamous whale, @haejin. Let's take a look what he has been up to lately.

         Hmm, seems typical of what he does with @ranchorelaxo. You would think he should be the prime target. Well, Rancho doesn't post, so it doesn't matter. Let's see what our analysts actually does on his posting account.

         Are you surprised? His self-votes is actually in the low 80's in the last week. I think most of us did not see that coming. I know I didn't.

         I liken excessive self-votes as playing Solitaire. You don't interact with anyone or anything, but yourself and the bare necessities on the blockchain. So again, how much is too much? Here are some gems I have found through the @sadkitten.

Is it 97.30%?

Is it 99.40%?

Or, is it Self-vote Nirvana? 100%

         Geez, that man has reached Nirvana. I don't think I could ever be as enlightened as that person. He needs a medal.

Rehash

         Again, self-voting by itself is not a bad practice as the code allows it. It is my personal belief that when it becomes a game of Solitaire, we may have a problem. Social media should be "fun and interactive"; to quote an overused Blizzard joke.

         If you want to do things yourself, I would suggest you go for the traditional mining route. Then again, it's an open platform. You may do as you wish. Just remember:

You are free to do whatever you want, but you are also free to receive all consequences.
