A DAY IN MY LIFE AS A VETERINARY STUDENT AT MOUAU... 📚
Hi #Hivers!
I’m excited to be here in this community(@hivestudentconnect) so I will be sharing a little peek into my life as a veterinary student at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU). Studying vet med was my choice-yes, I chose this path but honestly? I never imagined it would be this demanding. 😩
Let me take you through my daily routine, struggles, and some laughs along the way. Ready? Let’s go!
Night Owls and Study Wars;
As a very serious student, I sleep early by 6 p.m. 😴 (Yes, I said 6!) Why? So I can wake up by 9 or 10 p.m. to read through the night. This has been my routine since 200L. Even when I’m not sleepy, I force myself to sleep.
Once I’m up, I wash my face, drink water (study tip: drinking water helps keep you awake), and dive into my books. But let’s be real sometimes I doze off with my eyes open, LOL. It’s like a cycle: read, doze, wake, and repeat till morning. Recently, the cold doesn’t help at all my body wants sleep, but my grades need attention.
☀️School Prep
By 5:45 a.m., I’m already getting ready for school. I love hot water baths, it helps me feel alive again. I try to leave for school by 7:00 a.m., but e no dey easy sometimes.
🚶♀️Trekking Chronicles: Meet THE WALKANDERS
As a proud off-campus, average Nigerian student, I trek to school every day, come rain or sunshine. But I don’t trek alone! I have my amazing group of friends—THE WALKANDERS ⚡ (cool name, right?). We only need to fuel our “leggediz Benz (legs)" and march through the day like champions. 😂
Unstable Lecture Locations = Tiredness.com
Our classes bounce between our college and a place called D-block (which isn’t even ours). There we take lectures like Parasitology, Pharmacology, Pathology, Anatomy, and Physiology. The rest? Back to our main college.
Class Life: Come Early or Get Roasted
Lectures start by 8 a.m. sharp, and if the lecturer beats you to class, expect either:
A side-eye
A joke at your expense
Or a “go home” message.
Honestly, I like when lecturers are late, it gives me time to gist with my friends and recover from the trek.
Worst days? Tuesdays and Fridays. We’re in school till 6 p.m. Other days? We close around 5 p.m. Some lecture lasts 3–4 hours and let me not even start with the “chairs” or should I say stools? You sit for hours with no back support. It’s painful living..
🍽️ Food Wahala;
Cooking? Meh. I’m lazy. But I recently decided to start cooking more because mehn a girl needs energy.. During school hours, I live on snacks: buns, biscuits, egg rolls, chips, michai, and water. If I eat in the morning, I don’t eat again until I get home (budgeting 101).
Students who buy food every day? We call the guys Pablos and the girls Pablets. Funny right? 😂
The Trek Back & My Evening Ritual;
After lectures, it’s another trek back home with my gang. Once I get inside, I sigh the loudest sigh ever 😩, rest a bit, and reward myself with TikTok time, it’s my personal “you survived today” treat.
Then I:
Eat
Shower
Sleep ...so I can repeat the whole thing again by 9 or 10 p.m.
This cycle runs Sunday through Friday.
🧘 Saturdays = Reset Mode
On Saturdays, I:
Clean my space
Wash my clothes ...and then binge on K-dramas as my well-earned reward!
Sundays? Umm… Sometimes
Yes, I go to church… but not regularly. (Please, no judgment = I’m trying! 😭)
That’s My Vet Student Life. Boring or Nah?
Let me know in the comments, does this sound like a boring life to you? Or can you relate?
🗣️ I’d love to hear how your daily routine compares! Whether you're in school, working, or adulting, we all have our hustle.
P.S.: All photos in this post belong to me... Thanks so much for reading, supporting, and laughing (hopefully!) with me 💓
