Portrait, Amelia
✨️Hi Everyone! ✨️
What's up party people, back again with another portrait! This one is called Amelia, and I spent almost 11 hours with her last week. Usually, I like to spend only a couple few hours on an artwork, but I used this portrait as an exercise to try out a different process from my normal.

In my quest to become more efficient (to make better art in less time), I revisited some native IbisPaint tutorials, watched a helpful technique video by Mario Bucci and played around on a test canvas before finding a nice reference on pexels that turned into Amelia. Although this one took some time, I feel like the next portrait will come together more quickly, smoothly.

Previously, to achieve dimension, I was using many layers on top of each base layer for each section of a painting, like this:
"Blue Jay", from my spring 2022 Birds of a Feather Series.
For "Amelia", I used one base layer and 2 depth layers for each section. One layer for highlights (blending mode 'add') and one layer for shadows (blending mode 'multiply'), like this:
As for Amelia 'herself', she's not perfect, but who is? The eyes look pretty and I like the way her shirt appears to have some form. The facial area is also good, a solid resting bitch face (RBF). She's a keeper.
On the next one, I want to use multiple brushes to see how well I can integrate what I got from the research I did-- Despite the fact I said liked the look of using only one brush on the last post 😆. Alright let's have a look at 'er:
