Where am I building it?

On June 13th, I celebrated 7 years on Hive.

Although, if I'm being honest, my journey of building communities, moderating spaces, curating content, mentoring new users, and creating educational resources around blockchain began long before that.

And lately, I’ve found myself asking an uncomfortable, yet necessary question:

Who have I been building for all this time?

For years, I devoted countless hours to supporting projects, nurturing communities, answering questions, creating guides, helping people take their first steps, and celebrating the growth of others.

Many of those users are still here. Others found opportunities. Some went on to build their own paths. And that has value.

Yet over time, I also learned something important: Not everything we build gives back an equivalent return to what we put into it.

El 13 de junio cumplí 7 años dentro de Hive.

Aunque, si soy honesta, mi historia construyendo comunidades, moderando espacios, curando contenido, enseñando a nuevos usuarios y creando recursos educativos en blockchain, comenzó mucho antes.

Y en estos días me encontré haciéndome una pregunta incómoda, pero necesaria:

¿Para quién estuve construyendo todo este tiempo?

Durante años dediqué incontables horas a apoyar proyectos, acompañar comunidades, resolver dudas, crear guías, orientar a personas que daban sus primeros pasos y celebrar el crecimiento de otros.

Muchos de esos usuarios siguen aquí. Otros encontraron oportunidades. Algunos construyeron sus propios caminos. Y eso tiene valor.

Sin embargo, con el paso del tiempo también aprendí algo importante: no todo lo que construimos nos devuelve algo equivalente a lo que entregamos.

Sometimes we invest our time, knowledge, and energy into spaces we genuinely care about, hoping for recognition, gratitude, or simply the feeling that our work left a visible mark.

But life has a curious way of teaching us that things do not always work that way. And that's okay.

Because the real mistake is not giving without receiving.
The real mistake is assuming that one day a reward will arrive that was never promised in the first place.

That is why I am not writing these words from a place of disappointment, but from a place of reflection.

I have come to understand that the most valuable resource we possess is not money, tokens, or rewards for creating something. It is time.
And with time comes an even more important question than "What am I building?" Where am I building it?

Because not every place values our efforts in the same way.
Not every space is prepared to recognize what we contribute.
And not every investment of time produces the same impact on our lives.

If these years have taught me anything, it is that we must be intentional about where we invest our energy, our knowledge, and our hearts.

Because in the end, the most important places to build are still the ones we can embrace, care for, and watch grow right in front of us.

Our family.
Our home.
Our people.
Our own dreams.

If you choose to build within any community, project, or platform, do it because you believe in it and because you genuinely enjoy the process.

But never depend on recognition to determine whether your efforts were worthwhile.

Because that recognition may never come—or it may only reach a select few. And if you ever find yourself looking for the place where your time can generate the greatest return, remember that the people who love you most are probably much closer than you think.

Not because of the years that have passed. But because of the lessons they have taught me.

A veces damos nuestro tiempo, nuestro conocimiento y nuestra energía a espacios que apreciamos profundamente, esperando quizás reconocimiento, gratitud o simplemente la sensación de que nuestro trabajo dejó una huella visible.

Pero la vida tiene una forma curiosa de enseñarnos que no siempre ocurre así. Y está bien.

Porque el verdadero error no es dar sin recibir. El error es asumir que algún día llegará una recompensa que nadie prometió.

Por eso hoy no escribo estas líneas desde la decepción, sino desde la reflexión.

He comprendido que el recurso más valioso que poseemos no es el dinero, ni los tokens, ni las recompensas por crear algo. Es el tiempo.

Y con el tiempo llega una pregunta aún más importante que "qué estoy construyendo": ¿Dónde estoy construyéndolo?

Porque no todos los lugares valoran de la misma manera nuestros esfuerzos. No todos los espacios están preparados para reconocer lo que aportamos. Y no todas las inversiones de tiempo generan el mismo impacto en nuestra vida.

Si algo me han enseñado estos años es que debemos ser muy conscientes de dónde colocamos nuestra energía, nuestro conocimiento y nuestro corazón.

Porque al final del camino, los lugares más importantes para construir siguen siendo aquellos que podemos abrazar, cuidar y ver crecer frente a nosotros.

Nuestra familia.

Nuestro hogar.

Nuestra gente.

Nuestros propios sueños.

Si decides construir en cualquier comunidad, proyecto o plataforma, hazlo porque crees en ello y porque disfrutas hacerlo. Pero nunca dependas del reconocimiento para sentir que tu esfuerzo valió la pena. Porque quizás ese reconocimiento nunca llegue o solo le llegue a unos pocos.

Y si alguna vez buscas un lugar donde tu tiempo tenga el mayor retorno posible, recuerda que las personas que más te aman probablemente estén mucho más cerca de lo que imaginas.
