Breathing Ashes
I cannot silence the ringing in my ears
Words and silence
Thoughts I can’t control
My body is ailing
I collapse to the dirt
I breathe in ashes
My hand gropes for a blade
Whispers, shouts, screams
It can’t drown out the noise
Desperate for release
Begging for an end
Knife across my wrist
Blood, panic, tears
Its not enough
My wrist burns for hours
The scab lasts for days
My scars will never leave me
I will never be the same
But I’m damaged
Not broken
This will not be the end
